LAPORTE | A former high school athlete in Michigan City was given a 52-year prison sentence for selling cocaine and possession of heroin.
Rodney Richard, 45, was sentenced Friday in LaPorte Circuit Court.
According to courtroom officials, his sentence was elevated due to several prior drug-related convictions.
The charges stem from Richard being caught selling cocaine in 2012 then being found in possession of cocaine and heroin during his arrest.
Michigan City High School athletic director Bear Falls said Richards was a forward on his ninth grade basketball team at Elston High School in the 1980s and also played quarterback on the varsity football squad.
