MICHIGAN CITY | The music of the medieval age comes to downtown Michigan City in two free concerts at Trinity Episcopal Church, 600 Franklin St. Los Musicos de Alfonso, an ensemble formed for the performance of medieval music, presents a preview program at 7 tonight. "Ecstatic Praise," a concert of sacred music, will be presented at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Playing authentic medieval musical instruments, Los Musicos de Alfonso specializes in the music of Hildegard von Bingen, 1098-1179, Cantigas de Loor from the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X of Spain, and selections from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, c.1399 Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. The group was founded by Pedro Funes (vielle), Brian McNulty (percussion), Thea Smith (soprano), and Kathryn Summersett (soprano) the musicians all are current or former students at IU's Jacobs School of Music.
