MICHIGAN CITY | Doctors at a Chicago hospital have upgraded the condition of the 6-year-old boy rescued from a sand dune at Mount Baldy on July 12.

Nathan Woessner, of Sterling, Ill., was rescued from an apparent sinkhole at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore after being buried in 11 feet of sand for more than three hours.

"Nathan continues to improve, and he has been upgraded to good condition," said Dr. Rachel Wolfson, of The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital, in a written statement on Saturday.

The area around Mount Baldy is closed indefinitely as National Lakeshore officials investigate what caused the sinkhole.
