MICHIGAN CITY | Indiana State Police arrested a 26-year-old LaPorte man early Thursday following a pursuit that traveled through a Walmart parking lot on Franklin Street.
About midnight, a 1999 GMC truck driven by Robert S. Aubin traveled at a high rate of speed on County Road 400 North, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
The vehicle passed an Indiana State Trooper and a Michigan City police officer who were stationary in the Walmart parking lot.
Police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Aubin attempted to flee through the parking lot, the news release states.
While in the lot, Aubin allegedly disregarded a stop sign.
Police said Aubin lost control of the vehicle near Franklin Street. He is accused of exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot into a wooded area after the truck spun to a stop.
He was taken into custody after police established a perimeter around the area.
Aubin was charged with felony resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, police said. He also faces misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.
Heather L. Putz, 27, of LaPorte, was a passenger in the truck. She was arrested on an active warrant issued out of Lake Station, police said.
Police said Putz didn't exit the vehicle during the incident, and she was cooperative with officers.
