MICHIGAN CITY | Members Advantage Credit Union awarded two new $500 Learn to Earn Scholarships to Stephanie Lee and Lauren Palmer.

Lee is an elementary education major at Ivy Tech Community College in Michigan City.

She said she chose to enter the field of education “because it’s the perfect profession to be on the same schedule as my children.”

She shared that her experience “volunteering at lunch and recess at my daughters’ school and substitute teaching and being around the kids everyday made me realize how much I enjoyed being in the classroom.”

In addition, Lee is a Junior Achievement serving as a LaPorte County volunteer, a Girl Scout Leader and a room mother, tutor, and a member of the fundraising and steering committees at Queen of All Saints Catholic School.

She resides in Michigan City with her daughters, Sophia, 8 and Jula, 5 and said she credits her boyfriend, Eric Brown, for his support in her decision to return to school.

When Lee heard the news about her scholarship, she said, “I was surprised and excited because financially every little bit helps especially as a nontraditional student. I’m very thankful.”

Michigan City resident Lauren Palmer is attending Butler University in Indianapolis where she is applying for the pharmacy and physician assistant programs. Her parents are Brian and Kelly Palmer.

Palmer graduated from Michigan City High School in 2011 where she received the Butler Trustee Scholarship, IU Health Auxiliary Scholarship, Booster Club Athletic Scholarship and P.E.O. Star Scholarship. She was also a top distinguished graduate and an IHSAA All-State Tennis Double Player.

At Butler, Palmer has held the positions of Class of 2015 Secretary, Student Government Representative and Yearbook Sports Editor. She volunteered in the Reading Is Fundamental Program at Coburn Place Safe Haven for women and children and as a True Blue Perspective Student Mentor at Butler.

“I was very ecstatic,” Palmer noted about receiving the scholarship. “It will really help me as I continue my education at Butler.”
