There's talk in Michigan City about brightening the NIPSCO cooling tower, which many people believe instills a negative image.
Mayor Ron Meer said things are still in the discussion stage but one idea he likes is using a projector to create a laser show of logos about festivals and other special events on the tower to welcome visitors during those attractions.
"This has been tossed around for many years," said Meer.
City Councilman Tim Bietry said one of the impressions people get when they see the tower along U.S. 12 is "that it appears to be nuclear."
The generating station is not nuclear and burns coal to produce electricity.
Meer said suggestions on how to improve the appearance of the cooling tower were again brought up this week during meetings to discuss downtown revitalization.
"There's a multitude of ideas and suggestions that are coming in about that," Meer said.
