MICHIGAN CITY | Police arrested 42 people during a sweeps operation early Wednesday morning, officials said.
More than 15 people were arrested in connection to outstanding warrants for theft, battery and possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release.
More than 25 people arrested were wanted for drug-related offenses such as dealing cocaine and marijuana.
Shallan Washington, 19, of Harvey, and Derrick D. Collins Jr., 27 of Michigan City, both were arrested in connection to four counts each of dealing cocaine as a Class A felony in separate incidents.
Joshua Mohamed, 35, of Michigan City, was picked up for a Class D felony strangulation warrant, the release states.
Four handguns were confiscated and one marijuana growing operation was shut down during the operation, police said.
This was the seventh sweeps operation Michigan City Police Department had this year.
