MICHIGAN CITY | Michigan City resident Deborah Chubb has received a statewide environmental award from the Hoosier Environmental Council.

Chubb, executive director of The Child Care Consortium, Inc., received the organization’s Environmentalist of the Year award during a ceremony in Indianapolis. The awards ceremony was a part of the Hoosier Environmental Council’s 5th annual Greening the Statehouse forum, held Saturday, Dec. 1at the University of Indianapolis.

Deborah Chubb has dedicated much of her life to environmental issues in Indiana. She is a board member of Save the Dunes Conservation Fund, Inc. and has served as its president, treasurer and secretary. She’s also a board member of the Coffee Creek Watershed Conservancy and a member of Friends of the Dunes.

"Deb Chubb is a stellar example of what it means to be a green-minded citizen,” said Kim Ferraro, director of agricultural and water policy for the Hoosier Environmental Council. “For more than a decade, she served on Save the Dunes' all-volunteer board of directors. As Board President, Deb led the organization to tackle some of Northwest Indiana's most pressing environmental concerns."

Greening the Statehouse is Indiana’s largest gathering of environmental advocates from around the state, drawing 300 people in 2012. In addition to the awards ceremony, the event was marked by a keynote address on climate change by geological scientist, Dr. Gabe Filippelli, and panel discussions featuring Republican and Democrat lawmakers on public transit, clean energy and industrial livestock pollution.
