MICHIGAN CITY | A Thursday morning warrant sweep in Michigan City, dubbed Operation Jack Frost, aimed at catching people wanted on theft and receiving stolen property charges ended with 39 arrests.

Michigan City police chose to focus on theft and stolen property crimes after seeing an upward trend in those areas.

"The men and women of the Michigan City Police Department have worked extremely hard to identify those responsible for stealing someone's property and/or possessing the stolen property," a statement issued by the department Friday morning said.

Of the 39 people taken into custody, 11 were arrested on theft or stolen property charges, police said.

Assisting with Thursday's sweeps were the Michigan City Police Department's street crimes unit, detective bureau and patrol division, who worked with the U.S. Marshal's Service, Indiana State Police, LaPorte County Sheriff's Department, Metro Unit, Trail Creek Police Department and the LaPorte County prosecutor's office.
