MICHIGAN CITY | The 22nd annual Festival of Holiday Lights will be held Saturday at Washington Park in Michigan City.

Schedule of Events

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS PARADE

3:30 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

Bundle up and pick the perfect spot along Parker Parkway and in front of the Senior Center to watch parade participants bustle along their merry way. Santa kicks off the parade in the main parking lot promptly at 3:30 and leads parade marchers, floats and some very special VIP’s past the Senior Center and into Fedders Alley.

Interested in participating in the parade? Parade applications are available online at www.mcsummerfest.org for a parade application.

Horse and Wagon Rides in the Park

4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Want to take in all of the beautiful holiday lights old-fashioned-style? Just in front of the Senior Center, hop on the horse-

drawn wagon and take a brisk ride throughout the park. What a great way to get into the holiday spirit. There is no fee for this attraction. However, we are requesting monetary and non-perishable food donations on behalf of The Salvation Army at this location. Please help us make the holidays a little more enjoyable for families in need!

Toys for Tots Collection

4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Michiana Marines Detachment 1348 will have a collection box at the Chili Cook Off for the La Porte County Toys for Tots 2011 campaign. Donations are requested for new, unwrapped toys for children ages infant through 12. Monetary donations are needed as well to buy toys. Checks should be made payable to Toys For Tots and can be dropped off at the Chili Cook Off or mailed to Michiana Marine Detachment 1348, P.O. Box 8873, Michigan City, IN 46360. Any LaPorte County family needing toys for their children between the ages of infant through 12 can contact their township trustee to sign up.

Non-Profit Organizations & City Department Challenge Chili Cook-Off

4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. (or while supplies last)

Bring the family over to the Senior Center to sample a variety of tasty chili’s, which are donated and prepared by local non-profit organizations as well as members of City departments. For only $5.00, you get to sample each delicious entry. Chilis range from “pleasantly mild” to “call the fire department hot”…there’s sure to be something to please everyone! Once you’ve tasted them all, vote for your favorite. This is your chance to decide who takes home the coveted traveling trophy. The 2011 winner, The Wall Gang, will coordinate the Cook-Off and all proceeds will benefit their organization.

Not really fond of chili? That’s OK! There will also be other refreshments, including hotdogs, pop and water available from Michiana Resources, a private non-profit adult rehabilitation agency dedicated to providing vocational and developmental support as well as advocacy services for people with disabilities.

Complimentary Hot Chocolate and Cookies

4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. (or while supplies last)

Once you’ve had your fill of chili and hotdogs, top it all off with some steamy hot chocolate and yummy cookies…all donated by your friends at Michiana Resources. Enjoy some treats while you wait your turn to see Santa!

Pictures with Santa

4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Santa has been waiting all year to see you again, too! Just inside the Senior Center, Santa will be available for photos for a small fee. So, be sure to bring your wish list and your best smile!

Official Lighting of the Festival of Holiday Lights 4:30 P.M.

NOTE NEW TIME THIS YEAR AT 4:30pm!!! Count down with Santa as all of the holiday light displays in Washington Park are turned on at once! You will not soon forget this breath-taking moment! Nearly 30 acres of decorations, 40 displays, 2 miles of extension cords, and millions of bulbs are on display! Lights are on every evening from December 1st through early January. Park entrance is FREE during this time, however, donations are welcome.

Thank you for supporting the Festival of Holiday Lights. The continued success of the Festival would not be possible without the generosity of many people. Some donate their time and talents, while others sponsor the various events with a monetary donation. All donations are welcome. All proceeds go to charity.

Donations can be mailed to:
