MICHIGAN CITY | A new principal has been hired at Michigan City High School where the former principal resigned due to allegations of inappropriate contact with a student.
Wendel McCollum was hired Wednesday night at a special School Board meeting. He will begin in July, said board member Beryle Burgwald.
McCollum is currently principal at East Chicago High School.
Former Principal Lee Dabagia Jr. resigned in December due to allegations he was having inappropriate contact with a former student on a cellphone.
Kevin Goralczyk has been the interim principal and will resume his duties as the school's associate principal once McCollum officially takes over the helm, said Burgwald.
Police investigated the allegations against Dabagia but released no further details on his alleged activities with the student and no charges were filed.
