Michelle Rivera, served as a registered nurse in the Infusion Department since 2009 before recently accepting the position of wound skin ostomy specialist in the Education Department, has been selected the August Ambassador of the Month for Franciscan St. Anthony Health Michigan City.
The award, ongoing since 1988, is presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee to recognize employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Alliance – compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness.
Rivera was nominated by a fellow employee, who said Rivera “consistently demonstrates our Franciscan Mission and has a genuine concern for every patient.”
Rivera’s supervisor seconded the nomination, adding, “Michelle is very conscientious and courteous, has a real passion for her work, and greatly deserves this recognition.”
Rivera said she was honored and appreciated the honor, adding, “I love my job. The whole department gets along so well. My work partner and I enjoy the job so much – patients comment on how well we work together.”
Rivera and her husband of six years, Ariel, have eight children and reside in Union Mills.
When she’s not working, Rivera enjoys gardening, cooking, sewing, camping, biking, boating and jogging. She also enjoys caring for three grandchildren.
In recognition of the honor, Rivera was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall, $150 cash and an invitation to the annual Service Awards and Recognition Banquet.
