LAPORTE | Eight miles of footprints in the snow led to the capture of a work release escapee in LaPorte.
Kenneth Bunn, 40, was still being held Tuesday in the LaPorte County Jail on Class C felony escape and Class D felony domestic battery.
Police said Bunn on Saturday night failed to report back to the work release center at 500 Monroe St., as required under terms of his sentence.
About 7 a.m. the next morning, police were called to the 5000 block of North 150 East near Rolling Prairie on a report that Bunn might be inside the residence.
Police said fresh footprints in the snow leading from the home were tracked across a field and into a wooded area then westbound beside U.S. 20 and southbound next to Ind. 39 into La Porte.
Bunn was caught after he was seen jumping fences behind homes on Haviland Street, police said.
LaPorte Community Corrections Director Dick Buell said Bunn was serving a one-year work release sentence for battery.
