MICHIGAN CITY | Michigan City Police on Monday were still looking for a suspect identified in a weekend shooting.

Marquise Cooper, 22, was admitted into the intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after being found on Franklin Street with gunshot wounds.

Michigan City Police Chief Mark Swistek said the suspect, Oshei Gerron, 19, was identified as a suspect in the incident with help from statements gathered during the investigation.

Judge Kathleen Lang issued an arrest warrant for Gerron charging him with aggravated battery and battery.

He would not release the circumstances leading up to the shooting but said Cooper and Gerron, both of Michigan City, know each other.

Cooper was found lying in the middle of Franklin Street between 10th and 11th streets before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information on Gerron's whereabouts is asked to contact Michigan City Police at (219) 874-3221 or the crime tips hotline at (219) 873-1488.
