LAPORTE COUNTY | A semi carrying auto parts left Interstate 94 early Wednesday and ended up tangled in trees along Trail Creek.
The driver was not seriously injured.
According to Indiana State Police, about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer, loaded with about 41,000 pounds of auto parts, was eastbound on I-94 when the driver, Charles E. Jackson, 55, of Etowah, Iowa, stated his wheel jerked to the right causing him to lose control.
Police said the Kenworth went off the roadway, down into a ditch, through a tree line where the trailer got lodged in the trees and the tractor came to rest in trees suspended over Trail Creek.
Coolspring Volunteer Fire firefighters had to use chain saws to cut parts of the tree away to extricate Jackson from the semi. Jackson complained of pain, but he refused medical treatment.
The semi had extensive damage to the tractor and trailer.
