South Shore train service is resuming after being suspended during the morning rush due to a derailment in the commuter rail line's Michigan City rail yard early this morning.
No injuries were reported.
Regular westbound train service is set to resume with Train No. 14, schedule to arrive in Chicago at 10:28 a.m. with a delay of 15 to 20 minutes, according to the Northern Indiana Commuter Rail Line. Eastbound Train No. 7, scheduled to depart Chicago at 8:45 a.m., is expected to be 30 minutes late.
Six rush hour South Shore trains scheduled to arrive in Chicago between 7:21 a.m. and 8:52 a.m. were canceled due to the derailment.
Metra Electric will honor ticket-holding South Shore passengers who rode Metra into Chicago this morning, NICTD representatives said.
