South Shore commuter trains were running on schedule Monday morning after damage to a substation Sunday caused significant delays and cancellations in Porter and LaPorte counties.
John Parsons, spokesman for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, said trains were running without problem between Ogden Dunes and Michigan City just before 7 a.m., nearly 24 hours after a high-voltage power line fell across the Ind 49 bridge over the South Shore Line.
The line caused a short on the substation 2 miles east of the Dune Park Station, damaging equipment there. The damage forced the cancellation of some trains and delays of up to 90 minutes on others due to the need for reduced speeds in the area served by the damaged substation.
