MICHIGAN CITY | The Michigan City Police Department’s Traffic Division is announcing that the following lane restrictions and road closures will take effect on Saturday at 4 pm to allow for the Summerfestival Car Cruise on Franklin Street:
All northbound and southbound lanes of Franklin Street will be closed between Coolspring Ave. and Barker Road as the car cruise departs the parking lot of Al’s Supermarket.
The northbound lanes of Franklin Street will be closed between Coolspring Ave and 9th Street.
(Detours will be: Ohio St. to the west and Woodland Ave. to the east)
9th Street will be closed between Franklin Street and Pine Street.
Pine Street will be closed between 9th Street and US Hwy 12
Northbound traffic will not be allowed on the Franklin Street bridge until the conclusion of the car cruise.
The road closures and lane restrictions are expected to last approximately one hour.
The Michigan City Police Department is also urging motorists to make preparations now for the following parking restrictions which will occur on Sunday July 14th for the annual fireworks display:
On Sunday from noon to 3 am motor vehicles will not be allowed to park on either side of Michigan Blvd. (Hwy 35) from US Hwy 12 east to Carroll Ave.
Public parking will not be allowed in the main parking lot of the police station.
Shoulder parking will not be allowed on the following streets:
*Lakeshore Drive from Krueger Hill to Lake Ave.
*Lake Ave from Lakeshore Drive to Fogarty St.
*Krueger Hill from Lakeshore Dr. to Center St.
Any vehicles parked in these areas after 12 pm will be ticketed and towed at the owners expense.
Road closures after the fireworks display to facilitate the exit of vehicles from the park area will include:
Lakeshore Drive from Franklin St. to Krueger Hill
Pine St. from 5th St. to US Hwy 12
Franklin St. from Lakeshore Drive to 2nd St.
Center St. will be open to southbound traffic only
During and after the display, turning lanes on Michigan Blvd. from US Hwy 12 to Carroll Ave. will be restricted. Only those intersections with automatic signals will be open for left turns. No U-Turns will be allowed on Michigan Blvd. during this time period.
Additionally, all vehicles parked in Lot 1 and Lot 2 of Washington Park will be directed either southbound on Washington St. to Franklin St., or west on US Hwy 12. All vehicles parked in Fedders Alley or east of that location will be directed either eastbound on US Hwy 12, or eastbound on Michigan Blvd.
