MICHIGAN CITY | A trial date has been set for a Michigan City-area man who posted bond on charges of killing his girlfriend's 3-year-old son.
Zachariah Grisham, 24, appeared in a Michigan City courtroom Thursday after posting $10,000 bond last month.
LaPorte County Deputy Prosecutor Dave Ambers said a trial date of July 7 was set in the case.
Grisham stands accused of shooting Lance Wilson in September during a game involving the boy pointing a finger at Grisham and saying “bang” and Grisham pointing a real gun at the boy and also saying “bang.”
Grisham told police he forgot the gun was loaded during the last game with the boy, authorities said.
He could face anywhere from a 20- to 50-year sentence on Class A felony neglect of a dependent and a two- to eight-year sentence on Class C felony reckless homicide.
