MICHIGAN CITY | The National Weather Service is warning that another blast of extremely cold weather is poised to move into our area early next week.
High temperatures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week may struggle to hit the low single digits with low temperatures on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning forecast to be in the 0 to -10 degree range. Adding to this dangerous situation during this time period will be wind chills that are forecast to range between -20 to -40 degrees.
With this latest period of brutally cold air expected to envelop the area by the beginning of next week, Mayor Meer would like to remind the citizens of Michigan City that several warming centers will be open.
Warming centers will be available at the following locations:
• Michigan City Police Station (24 hours)
102 W. 2nd Street
• Michigan City Fire Administration Building (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm)
2510 E. Michigan Blvd.
• Michigan City Senior Center (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm)
• 2 on the Lake
• Michigan City City Hall (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm)
• 100 E. Michigan Blvd.
• Michigan City Public Library (during business hours)
100 E. 4th Street
Mayor Meer urges the citizens of Michigan City to check on family, friends, neighbors, pets, and especially the elderly during this dangerous cold outbreak to ensure everyone stays healthy and safe.
