MICHIGAN CITY | A warrant sweep on Friday led to the arrests of 23 individuals on outstanding warrants throughout Michigan City and LaPorte County.

Operation Summer Sweep was organized by the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team, which has been credited with arresting 252 individuals totaling 521 criminal charges since January 2014.

Michigan City Police was assisted by Trail Creek Police, LaPorte County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, the United States Marshal's Service and the LaPorte County prosecutor's office in the sweep initiative.

According to authorities, one search warrant executed at 532 Holliday St. resulted in the seizure of money, marijuana and marijuana baked goods. Police said Friday's sweeps also netted guns and a large marijuana grow operation was seized.

Michigan City Police Chief Mark Swistek said he was pleased with the results of the sweep and the execution of the search warrant. Police said more arrests are expected as a result of the initiative, and Swistek said he encourages any citizen with any information into criminal activity or the location of wanted fugitives to provide tips to the Michigan City Police Department by calling the Crime Tip Hotline at (219) 873-1488 or by sending them a message on Facebook or Twitter.
