Police on Monday were trying to identify a woman who robbed a motel clerk just outside Michigan City.
The same robber also could have been planning to rob a motel across the street.
"We're working diligently on trying to find who this is," said LaPorte County police Chief of Detectives Pat Cicero.
The robbery happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the Dunes Inn on U.S. 421 just north of Interstate 94.
According to police, a woman walked inside asking about room prices then left but returned about 10 minutes later.
A note she handed the front desk clerk demanded all of the money from the register and indicated there was a man outside with a gun.
The female clerk handed over about $150 in cash and the suspect fled in a tan colored sedan.
The clerk then followed instructions to lie on the floor and count to 200.
The robber was described as white, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing nearly 200 pounds, with brownish hair and eyeglasses with dark-colored frames.
Cicero said detectives have an image of the robber taken by the motel's video security camera and plan to distribute it to area law enforcement agencies to help identify the suspect.
According to police, a woman matching that description was seen that night inside the nearby Knights Inn asking about rooms.
Cicero said whether a second person was actually with the suspect was not known.
