MICHIGAN CITY | As a kick-off for its 85th anniversary celebration, the Washington Park Zoo is inviting members of the community to help design the zoo’s new logo.
The object of the contest is to create a logo that represents the zoo’s mission: “The Washington Park Zoo is dedicated to providing fun recreational family experiences; and promoting the appreciation of wildlife through public display and educational programs, while meeting the biological and psychological needs of the animals in our care.”
The Top 5 designs will be chosen by the park superintendent, zoo director and zoo staff and will then be posted onto the zoo’s facebook page for one week for a public judging. The new logo will then be featured in the zoo’s future marketing including on the penny coin press, staff uniforms, advertisements, gift shop items, brochures, vehicle decals, stationary, Web site, Face book, press releases, etc…
There is no cost to enter the contest. Entries must be received no later than June 1.

From its humble start with a single brown bear, Jake, the Washington Park Zoo is evolving to become one of the best area attractions, delighting generations of visitors and working hard to preserve the future for wildlife.
The zoo officially began in 1928 with a very small collection of animals, donated materials and a very dedicated group of volunteers.
The role of zoos has changed dramatically over the past several decades. The focus of zoos has shifted from showcasing as many animals as possible, to creating a recreational experience that also focuses on the importance of providing an educational premise for which zoos exist. Zoos of today have three very distinct purposes – education, conservation, and recreation.
