Two complete basic training
Army National Guard Pfc. Summer K. Dunn and Army National Guard Pvt. James E. Galburth III have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Dunn is the daughter of Kimberly Carter, of Calumet City, and Mark Dunn, of Chicago. She is a 2012 graduate of Thornwood High School, South Holland.
Galburth is the son of Sherita Powell and grandson of Reather Fullwood, both of Gary. He is a 2010 graduate of Portage High School.
Alvah K. Mills has been promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Mills is a structures noncommissioned officer-in-charge assigned to Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The new technical sergeant has served in the military for 10 years.
He is the son of Denise Howard, of Portage
Mills received an associate of science in 2012 from Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Gunter Air Force Base, Ala.
