A wind chill advisory and flood warning are in effect for LaPorte County, with wind chills dipping to 20 below zero and lake-effect snow bringing even more precipitation to the rain-swollen Kankakee River.

The wind chill advisory issued by the National Weather Service is set to expire at noon Friday and the flood advisory will expire at noon Saturday.

Bitterly cold air is expected to continue across the area with gusty west winds driving wind chills to 20 below zero through the morning. West winds of up to 25 mph with air temperatures in the single digits are expected.

As of 6 a.m. Friday, the Kankakee River at Davis U.S. 30 was at 9.91 feet. Flood stage is 10 feet.

Runoff from recent rainfall has already caused minor flooding along the river.
