Mastodon Exhibit at the Porter County Museum

Visitors Kay Cone and Ross Harrell look at the newly renovated Prehistoric Porter County exhibit at the Porter County Museum in Valparaiso.

Mastodon bones and other artifacts mostly discovered in 1949 by Porter County farmer Myron Benedict are on display through the end of the year as part of Prehistoric Porter County at Porter County Museum, 153 S. Franklin St., in Valparaiso. Children are invited to do a little digging of their own, and visitors are asked to think about what they would do if they found a tooth in their backyard. For more information, call 219-465-3595 or visit pocomuse.org.

Get ready for the Fall Harvest Festival! Downtown Valparaiso celebrates fall with two days of costumes, tricks, treats, spooks and more. Friday includes trick-or-treating and hayrides, and the fun continues Saturday with live entertainment, an inflatable pumpkin jump and other family-friendly activities.
