KENTLAND | A 22-year-old man from downstate Brazil was identified as the person killed in the crash involving a semitrailer Friday in Newton County, officials said.

Daniel J. Dillman was identified Monday as the driver who was heading north on U.S. 41 and died after the truck hit his vehicle, Newton County Sheriff's Department officials said.

Dillman's vehicle began drifting off the road and lost control while trying to get back on the road, officials said. Dillman's vehicle crossed the median and was hit by the semitrailer heading south on U.S. 41 near County Road 1500 South.

He died at the scene. The driver of the semi, Jeremey Smith, 36, of Alvin, Ill., was not injured.
