Snowy weather in Newton County left an Illinois man dead Thursday after a semitrailer struck his semitrailer head-on, police said.

Ronnie L. Woodby was driving west on U.S. 24 near County Road 600 East about 2:40 p.m when an oncoming semitrailer crossed over the line from the eastbound lane and struck him head-on, according to a Newton County Sheriff's Department news release.

Woodby, 45, of Milford, Ill., was ejected from his truck and transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer where he later died, officials said.

The man driving the other tractor-trailer suffered a broken leg and contusions.

Police said blowing snow created bad road conditions, causing the crash.

Both trailers were empty, but the crash caused about $110,000 in damage, the release states.
