A Newton County man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle collided with a car in downtown Washington, D.C., where he was participating in the weekend-long Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride to honor veterans.
George Hillis, 66, who lived outside Lake Village, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Washington police said the collision occurred late Friday at the intersection of 23rd Street and Constitution Avenue NW, which is near the Lincoln and Vietnam Veterans memorials.
A candlelight vigil took place at the Vietnam Memorial at 9 p.m. Friday, and the crash occurred about two hours later.
Police are still investigating the collision, which occurred as Hillis turned his Harley-Davidson bike west onto Constitution.
