ROSELAWN | A man described as being in his late 20s and about six feet tall with minimal facial hair is being sought by police for the robbery of the DeMotte State Bank branch in Roselawn on Friday.

The Newton County Sheriff's Department said they were called at 2:30 p.m. to the branch on Ind. 10. A deputy on patrol just 1.5 miles away responded quickly and checked the area for the suspect's vehicle, described as a silver or gray Oldsmobile four-door car with partial Illinois plates of K46.

The suspect was dressed in black and wore black gloves and a black sock hat. Police said he did not display a weapon. Sheriff Tom VanVleet commended the bank staff for remaining calm and gathering details to help police.

"They did their job very well, and as a result, they were able to give us some great leads to work on," VanVleet said.

The Sheriff's Department is working with the FBI, and photos and additional information on the robbery have been posted on the Newton County Sheriff's Department Facebook page: https//

Anyone with information on the robbery should contact Sgt. Cochran at 219-474-5661.
