NEWTON COUNTY | Two teens were arrested Friday after leading police through a chase in Newton County.

Tori L. Leavell, 19, of Milwaukee, was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver, a 17-year-old whose name was not released, also was arrested. The Newton County Sheriff's Office did not release the charges Sunday afternoon.

The police pursuit started at 1:47 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 400 East and Ind. 14 after Newton County Sheriff's Office received a call about an attempted vehicle theft.

Leavell and the 17-year-old teen were driving a blue Jeep Cherokee with a Michigan license plate. Deputies later discovered the vehicle was reported stolen in Milwaukee.

The teens continued driving into a field off Ind. 14 near U.S. 41, and eventually stopped when the Jeep went into a ditch, deputies said.

According to a news release, the teens threw marijuana from the vehicle during the chase, and it was later found by deputies.
