LAKE VILLAGE | A 71-year-old Lake Village woman died Friday morning following a fire in a field outside her home, officials said.
Darlene Denton of 5285 N. Ind. 10 was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m. in the emergency room at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
The cause of death was listed as smoke inhalation suffered in an accidental death.
Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Allan Corning said investigators were meeting with representatives from the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office on a probe of the fatal fire.
