BROOK | An 8-year-old boy was injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday in Newton County, the Newton County Sheriff's Department said.

The crash happened at 4:48 p.m. as the boy, of Brook, was crossing the street near 301 E. Main St., deputies said.

Jennifer Rahmoeller, 28, of Fair Oaks, was traveling west in a 2005 Ford van when she struck the child, according to the news release. Rahmoeller said she didn't see the boy before the crash.

The unidentified boy was taken to Jasper County Hospital and later was airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, authorities said.
