C.P. man went out of his way for others
Stanley Kuzniar was the kind of man who would help anyone who needed him, said his wife, Maureen Kuzniar.
"He was everyone's handyman," she said. "Friends, family, neighbors. He was always there to help people."
Stanley "Stan" Kuzniar, 68, of Crown Point and formerly of Calumet City and Lansing, died Jan. 18. He had retired from Inland Steel and had worked part-time for Home Lumber. He was a member of Calumet City Cavaliers.
He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Ford cars, she said. He most recently had purchased a custom 1954 Mercury Monterey.
He enjoyed showing his cars in shows around the area, especially on the Crown Point square.
"He made a lot of friends at car shows," she said. "We loved to sit outside in the sunshine."
Maureen Kuzniar said her husband of 45 years was an excellent husband and a great father. She admired the way he took care of the kids and the family, and he was always there when they needed him.
"We did everything together," she said.
When she got sick, he learned how to do things around the house he wouldn't normally do, like make dinner, she said.
"He was willing to step in and help and do things he didn't usually do," she said.
The couple enjoyed traveling, and had made trips to California and Arizona to visit family.
"We really enjoyed the retirement time we had together," she said. "We did whatever we could do to stay young."
