Cynthia Hepp was a friendly, outgoing woman who made friends easily, said her mother, Elvira Villarreal.
“She listened to everyone, and could get along with everyone,” her mother said.
Cynthia Hepp, 62, of Gary, died Feb. 7. She worked 30 years for St. Anthony Hospital as a secretary. She was a member of Gary’s Mexican Club.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Villarreal.
She loved being a part of the Mexican Club, where she was involved in planning holiday parties for children.
“She loved planning those activities,” her mother said.
She also was involved in various Catholic ministry projects, including helping migrant workers in the area.
“She would take (the migrant workers) grocery shopping, or whatever they needed,” she said. “She wanted to help them get ahead.”
Before she became ill, Hepp had a variety of hobbies, from basket weaving to knitting and crocheting. She made numerous baby blankets for friends and co-workers.
She also was a good cook, and baked a lot for Christmas and Easter.
“She liked to make the Polish kolaches,” she said. “She would make them for family and take them to work with her.”
Villarreal said her daughter was always trying to help others.
“If she could find someone to help, she would,” she said. “She enjoyed getting to know people and helping them. She had a good heart.”
