Patrick M. Schuljak lived for his kids.

“They were the light of his life,” his wife, Julie Schuljak, said of their sons, Sean, 11, and Connor, 7.

Schuljak was a Cub Scout leader at St. Ann School in Lansing, enjoyed camping in the backyard with his sons and taking them on family road trips.

Schuljak, 43, of Lansing, was an outgoing guy who liked to make everybody laugh.

“It was so much fun being with him,” Julie Schuljak said. “Everybody misses the laughter when he would joke around. He was a big jokester and trickster.”

Married 15 years, the couple met on a blind date.

A Chicago Bears fan, Schuljak enjoyed attending their games. His other hobbies were going to heavy metal concerts with his wife and friends, camping, fishing, movies and dining out.

Julie Schuljak said her husband was a friendly, unselfish man who always put everybody before himself.

Originally from St. John and a 1988 Lake Central High School graduate, Schuljak worked as a materials handler eight years at Z.F. Lemforder in Chicago. He was a member of the Lake County Fish and Game Protective Association in Griffith.

Schuljak enjoyed watching horror flicks and scaring everyone on Halloween, his favorite holiday. He showcased his creative talents in his outdoor display.

“He liked to put on a big show in the front yard,” his wife said. “We had people drive by our house to see what he would do every year.”

Julie Schuljak said she will miss everything about her husband.

“What I will miss most about him is his fun personality and his laughter,” she said. “He always had these one-liners he would come up with.”
