Floyd Alan Adkins, age 62, of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was born October 10, 1940 in Hawesville, KY to Floyd and Mary Agnes (Corley) Adkins. An area resident for over 40 years, he lived in Kouts before moving to Valparaiso. He worked for many years as the produce manager at Tittles and also worked at McDaniel Fire Systems. Alan is survived by his wife of 24 years, Barbara Sue Baldwin; two children, Wendy (Robert) Bogel and their children Robert and Brandon of Valparaiso; Ron Adkins and his children Gina and Teddy of Wanatah; two step-sons, Mike Birky and Mark (Robin) Birky and their children Justin, Amber and Coel all of Valparaiso; three brothers, Jim (Alleen) Adkins of Hawesville, KY, Henry (Lil) Adkins of Louisville, KY and Doug (Chris) Adkins of Valparaiso; three sisters, Dorthy (Jack) Marsh of Sebree, KY, Mary Hardin of Valparaiso and Lillian (Carl) Lillpop of Louisville, KY; a sister-in-law Pauline Adkins of Hawesville, KY and
his pet cat, Prissy. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Scott on this day, May 15, 1992 and a brother, Walter on January 16, 1986. Alan was well loved and will be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews also. We will miss his smile and jokes and his love of nature. He will live in our hearts forever. Sylvester J. Breitenbach
Sylvester J. "Sy" Breitenbach, age 78, a lifetime Wanatah resident passed away Friday, May 16, 2003 at his home. He was born January 26, 1925 in Wanatah, the son of Aloysius and Augusta (Daniels) Breitenbach, graduated from Morgan Twp. High School in 1943, served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII and was a member of Wanatah American Legion Post #403. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah, had worked for many years at Anco in Michigan City retiring in 1988 and will be lovingly remembered for his beautiful garden and love for golf and baseball.
On April 19, 1952 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Valparaiso, he married Pauline Flitter who survives along with their three children, Kathleen (Donald) Scurlock of Wanatah, Carol Trout of Plant City, FL and Steven (Cindy) Breitenbach of Wanatah; five brothers and sisters, Brother Clarence Breitenbach, C.S.C. of Notre Dame, IN, Leo (Jacquelyn) Brietenbach of Valparaiso, Sister M. Judian Breitenbach, P.H.J.C. of LaPorte, Loretta (Kenneth) Hanson of LaPorte, and Margaret Majewski of Hobart; eight grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1958.

Wayne Alan Duncan, age 64, of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was born November 25, 1938 the son of Harry Wilbur and Leona Rae (Corson) Duncan. Wayne was an automotive mechanic. On July 29, 1959 in Valparaiso, he married Sandra R. Woods, who survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving is a daughter, Teresa M. (L.D. Hummel) Soto of Wheatfield, IN, a son, Patrick W. (Debbie) Duncan of Brazil, IN; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Dave) Andree, Tony (Kim) Soto and Patrick, Michael and Nathan Duncan; a great-grandson, Brayden Soto; three brothers, Ronald (Christel) Duncan, Dennis (Carol) Duncan and Harry Duncan, all of Valparaiso; two sisters, Dawn (Jerry) Ruge of Chesterton and Faith Duncan of Hanna; a sister-in-law, Kathy Duncan of Valparaiso and two brothers-in-law, Waldo Woods of Valparaiso and Larry Woods of Kouts. She and her late husband Harry raised four children: Lawrence (Helen Ann) of Crown Point, late Harry Jr. (Patricia) of Chicago, Laura (Ronald) Landreth of Mantua, Ohio and Margaret of Highland; also survived by 11 loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Ruth (Frederick) Dempsey of Shelbyville, MI; cousin, Ford (late Alberta) McLain of Hadley, N.Y.; and many loving nieces and nephews. Beatrix A. Harring, age 86 of Highland, formerly of Whiting, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Ignatius Harring, who passed away August 18, 1968. Charles R. Holder, Jr., age 55, of Munster/Indianapolis Indiana, passed away Friday, May 16, 2003 in Hammond. Father John Kolaczek, OCD

Father John Kolaczek, OCD, a Discalced Carmelite priest from Poland who served for many years in the Gary Diocese as a member of the Carmelite Community in Munster, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond. Fr. John was born Stanislaw Kolaczek in the village of Andrychow outside the city of Wadowice, Poland, on April 29, 1921. He entered the Discalced Carmelite Order at Czerna in 1937, professing his first vows there on July 13, 1938, and taking the religious name John the Baptist of Jesus and Mary. After professing solemn vows on July 2, 1944, he was ordained a priest in Krakow on July 8, 1945. While still in Poland, he was renowned for his zealous work as a teacher, homilist, and spiritual director, serving also as prior at various monasteries. In 1971, he came to the Carmelite Monastery in Munster, where he carried on a fruitful apostolate for over 20 years, serving pilgrims at the shrine and assisting in many parishes throughout
the Gary Diocese. After falling ill in 1991 he lived at the Albertine Home in Hammond under the care of the Albertine Sisters until his death.
The Carmelite Community in Munster will hold a vesper service for Fr. John at their monastery on Monday, May 19, 2003 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will follow until 9:00 PM Monday evening, with a Mass celebrated by the Carmelite Community at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass for Fr. John Kolaczek, OCD will be Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 10:00 AM in the church at the Carmelite Monastery, 1628 Ridge Road in Munster, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Clara was a member of OLPH Church and the Rosary Society, who will pray the Rosary at 3:00 PM on Sunday. She loved to travel, and loved her garden and needle point. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Mike Sovich, age 91, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly a lifelong Chesterton, IN resident, passed away on Tuesday May 13, 2003 at his residence. Born in Gary, Indiana, August 28, 1911 to Nicholas and Anna Sulich Sovich. Married Sept 26, 1937 in Porter, IN to Geraldyne Samuelson who survives in Las Vegas, NV. Also survived by son Wayne (Carolyn) Sovich of Valparaiso, IN; daughters: Monica (Richard) Brown of Las Vegas, NV and Sandra (Donald) Olson of Chesterton, IN; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Nick, Steve, Andrew, John and George and sister Jean Stanley.

Mike retired in 1976, Mill Wright/U.S. Steel & Warehosue Foreman/Jo Sams. He was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School. A member of Michigan City A.E.R.I.E. #1228 and a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Rosebowl Lanes in Michigan City. Memorials may be made to the family for distribution to Hospice and the Augsburg Church. Mike was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
John Sadowski, age 68, of Highland, passed away Thursday May 15, 2003. Survived by his wife, Paula Jo (nee Strbiak), of 41 years; two sons, Michael (Jane) Sadowski of Illinois and Thomas (Linda) Sadowski of Crown Point; one daughter, Nancy (Steven) Alexich of Schererville; four grandchildren: Brooke, Cameron, Hunter and Drew; mother, Anna Sadowski of Highland. Erin C. Wentworth, age 14, of Lowell, IN, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2003. She is survived by her parents, David and Karen Dejnowski of Lowell; two sisters, Jennifer "J.D." Peters of Lafayette and Melissa "P.J" Renkar of Lowell; three brothers, Jeffery and Matthew Wentworth, both of Houston, TX and Geno Wentworth of Lowell; paternal grandfather, Raymond Dejnowski of Lowell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 19, 2003 at 11:00 AM at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lowell, IN, Father Peter Muha officiating. Cremation will follow. Erin attended Tri Creek Grade Schools. She was a 8th grader at Lowell Middle School where she was active in Girls Choir and Junior N.H.S. Erin helped with fund raising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the INDIANA Make-A-Wish Foundation.
