William Anderson Sr.

William "Bill" Anderson Sr., age 60, of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday July 3, 2003. He was born Dec. 21, 1942 in South Bend, IN, the son of Robert William Anderson Jr. & Betty (Hiatt) Anderson. Bill was a 27 year employee of Bulk Transport and he also had been employed at Lindahl Trucking. He was a member of the Teamster's Local #142, the Porter VFW, and the Chesterton Eagles Lodge. Bill was an avid bird watcher and he enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors include his mother: Betty Anderson of Wheatfield; two children: William Anderson Jr. and Lisa Anderson, both of Missouri; two sisters: Lori Anderson of Wheatfield and Jeri Holmes of Pamona, CA; five brothers: Barry Robert (Jeannette) Anderson of Tennessee, Ken (Sue) Anderson of Maryland, Andy (Cindy) Anderson of Wheatfield, Hap Anderson & Harry Anderson, both of Wheatfield; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his former wife Faye Watson also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, John Anderson

and his sister-in-law Fran Anderson.

Visitation 2:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2003 at Lang Funeral Service, KV Chapel, 3988 W. State Road 10, Wheatfield, IN. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday evening at the funeral chapel. Cremation will follow services and interment will follow at a later date in the Wheatfield Cemetery. Helen W. Beach, age 87, of Lansing, IL formerly of Richmond,IN passed away Tuesday, July 1,2003, at St.Margaret Hospital, Dyer. She is survived by her daughter, June (Marion) Todd of Lansing; one son, Donald (Evelyn) Finch of Richmond, IN; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lucian Hall and Fannie Frances Hall and son, Richard Finch.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7,2003, at 9:30 A.M. from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL to Our Lady of Knock Church for Mass at 10 A.M. Burial, Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday at the funeral home from 3 to 8 P.M.

Helen was born in Lexington, KY on January 26, 1916, and spent most of her life in Connersville and Richmond, IN. In 1930, she married Charles Finch (deceased) of Connersville and in 1962 she married Glen Beach (deceased) of Richmond, IN. Helen was a longtime cook at Earlham College in Richmond, IN. William J. Bennett, age 65, of Crete, IL, formerly of Dyer, IN, passed away at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer on Thursday, July 3, 2003. William was a former employee of United States Steel Corporation and the McDonald's Corporation. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his former wife, Barbara Bennett of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Blythe L. Thomas of Indianapolis, IN and Bethany A. (Scott) VanPelt of Noblesville, IN; four grandchildren: Brandis Greichunos of Portage, MI, Jordan, Megan and Sydney VanPelt of Noblesville, IN; two sisters: June (Charles II) Medbury of Texas and Joan Bennett of Dinwiddie, VA'; one niece, Mellisa Walker; four nephews: Mark Brockwell, Charles Medbury III, Mark Medbury and Scott Medbury; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

James E. "Jim" Cawley

James E. "Jim" Cawley, age 47, of Hobart passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003. He was a longtime Hobart resident, a member of the Hobart Moose. He attended Hobart High School. He did a two year apprenticeship at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, he also was the former Head Cook at the Cressmoor Country Club, he was also the former Head Chef and Assistant Manager at Lakes of the Four Seasons Country Club where he served for 18 years. Jim was currently employed as a supervisor of the Kitchen at Westville Correctional facility. Jim was a very caring and giving person.

He is survived by three brothers: George (Ronda) Cawley of Dorr, MI, Thomas Cawley of Valparaiso and Richard Cawley of Hobart; two sisters; Kathy (Arley) Tapp of Wheatfield and Judy (Barry) Martin of Hobart; close friends Marge Bousier, Chuck Marks, Hilda Getrich, Marilyn Marks, his dog, Daisy, and he was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Edith Shaw, his parents, William B. and Mary Alice Cawley Sr. and one brother William B. He is survived by his wife Shelby; daughter, Julianne (Brian) Parker; son, Robert Colantuono; five grandchildren: Amy, Breanna, Jessica, Sarah and Bobby; one great-granddaughter Rylie Grace; sisters-in-law, Linda Zack and Sandra Bice; and niece, Laura (Don) Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Grace Colantuono.

John G. "Ace" Dubich, age 87, of Whiting, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2003 at the St. Margaret Healthcare Center, Hammond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Adeline (nee Antkowiak); two children: Kathleen (Gary) Durochik of Wheaton, IL and John (Candy) Dubich of Cody, WY; four grandchildren: David (Linda) Durochik, Kristina (Philippe) Bourcier, Chris Meklin and Anna (Sterlin) Gilliland; three great-grandchildren: Sierra, Raphael and Estelle; sister, Laura (late Paul) Holman and brother, George (Wanda) Dubich, both of Whiting; sister-in-law, Dolores (late Edward) Smaron of Hammond; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, Peter Dubich and sister, Frances Dubich.

"Ace" Dubich was born on March 21, 1916 to Peter and Agatha (Ceh) Dubich in Whiting, Indiana, and was a lifelong resident. A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting; a World War II Army Veteran; a member of the V.F.W. Walter Kleiber Post #2724 (services Monday 7:15 PM) and American Legion Allied Post #369, who will Post Colors at the funeral home Monday at 7:30 PM and conduct graveside services at the cemetery on Tuesday. A member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Whiting Lodge 1273 (memorial service Monday, 8:00 PM) and in 1984 he was named "Elk of the Year". A retiree of the Amoco Oil Whiting Refinery with a service of 40 years, and a member of Amoco Oil Annuitants Club.

Richard M. "Dick" East, age 72, of East Chicago, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Barbara (nee Nolan); loving children; Becky Martich of Whiting and Richard (fiancee, Sara Fritz) East of Hammond; two grandsons, Eric and Conor; brother, H. K. (Wilma) East and sister-in-law, Mabel East; one niece and one nephew. Preceded in death by parents, Harrison and Mary East and brother, Emmett East.

Richard was born September 8, 1930 in Glendale, West Virginia, and moved from Ohio to East Chicago in 1958. He retired from Beatty Machine in 1993; he was a Korean Conflict U.S. Army Veteran; a 25 year member of American Legion Allied Post 369 will post colors 7:30 pm Sunday conduct military service at the cemeter on Monday and a member of Holloway Ohio's Old Timers Baseball Organization for over 50 years; and was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan.

Mr. Fistrovich was the former owner of Steffie & Joe's Restaurant in Highland and was employed at the Lake County Surveyors office; a Veteran of the Korean Conflict 990 Signal Corps and member of the Highland American Legion Post #180. He was a former sponsor and coach of Highland Girls Softball; member of Highland F.O.P.; the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #57 and former Highland Sanitary Board member. He was a die hard Cubs Fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Gullett and a brother, Fred McCollum, Jr. She is survived by three sons: Richard A. (Carol) Gullett of Westville, Fred M. (Penny) Gullett of Great Bend, Kansas and Lindsey D. (Diana) Gullett of Crown Point; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marie (nee Drabick); three daughters, Sharon (Kenneth "Bucky") Daniels of Hammond, Donna (Patrick) Crist of Crown Point and Melissa (Michael) Dernulc of Schererville; six grandchildren: Kymberli, Bo Adam, Brock and Benjamin Daniels, Kaycee and Cory Crist; mother, Kathryn Harmon of Whiting; brother, Robert (Kim) Harmon of Tucson, AZ; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Harmon.

Jermaine D. "Farukk" Johnson, age 21, of East Chicago, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 2, 2003. Mr. Johnson was born on March 12, 1982 in Gary, Indiana, and is survived by his loving foster parents, Mary and Ricky Jones of Gary, Indiana. Other survivors include his loving fiancee, Chaquita Sweeney, her daughter Ce'Avian and Chaquita's mother, Enda Buggs, all of whom are of East Chicago, Indiana; also surviving are his loving sisters Kimberly Wright of Gary, Indiana and Lavidika Johnson of South Bend, Indiana. Jermaine attended Faith World Church and he loved children. Mary Katherine Kinne, 77, of Hebron, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her residence. She was born on June 10, 1926 in Kouts to Frank and Josephine (Garlach) Steffel, Sr. Mary was a 1944 graduate of Hebron High School. She was a loving wife and mother, member of : the St. Helen's Catholic Church, Hebron, and Women of the Moose.

On December 29, 1951 in Hebron she married Hazen L. Kinne who survives. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank Steffel, Jr. and Charles Steffel; sister Anna Marie Keller.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2003 from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Kosanke Funeral Home, Kouts, with Prayer Service at 3:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be directly at St. Helen's Catholic Church, North Madison, Hebron at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 7, 2003, with Rev. Fr. Peter Yankauskas officiating. Ronald P. Kuhn "Ron", age 45, of Crown Point, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2003. He is survived by his partner of 20 years, Bob Daigneau of Crown Point; mother, Ann (nee Deutsch) Kuhn of Indianapolis, IN; father, Eugene and step-mother Margaret Kuhn of Schererville; brother, Ken (Colleen) Kuhn; two nieces, Elizabeth and Tess, all of Crystal Lake, IL; sister, Kathy (Ron) Kern; two nephews, Brandon and Brian and niece, Brooke, all of Noblesville, IN; grandfather, Adolph Deutsch of Crown Point.

Funeral Services will be held held on Monday, July 7, 2003 at 9:15 AM at the Geisen Funeral Home, Crown Point and 10:00 AM at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Crown Point. Fr. Terry Steffens officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home, 109 N. East St., Crown Point, on Sunday, July 6, 2003 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Ron was a 1977 graduate of Lake Central High School and employed as a flight attendant for US Airways since 1982. He was a current choir member and former organist at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Crown Point. Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
