Anthony John Gengo "Tony," age 85, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, May 9, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. Born January 21, 1918 in the Bronx, New York, son of the late Roger and Mary (Laguori) Gengo. He married Mary Lengal in 1941, she survives. Tony was a Army Veteran of WWII. He fought with the Golden Gloves in New York City and was Golden Glove Champion in 1936 at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. Tony came to Valparaiso in 1955 and opened Tony's Pizza on Garfield Street. He then moved with his son to Tony's Place, 218 East Lincolnway. Tony loved Valparaiso and always told his New York friends he came here to "watch the corn grow". He will be remembered for the wisdom he gave to hundreds of kids who worked at or patronized Tony's Place over the years. His kitchen was always open to people down on their luck. Tony loved beautiful cars and enjoyed feeding the birds in his later years. Family wishes memorials to the American Heart Assn. and Valparaiso Park Department. Milos "Major" Ivetich
Milos Ivetich "Major" age 92, of Merrillville, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2003. Born in Crni Lug, Bosna, Yugoslavia, he immigrated to the U.S. after valiantly serving the World War II Forces of Gen. Draza Mihailovic. Until just recently he was an active member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, and served the Central Committee of the Movement of Serbian Chetniks-"Ravna Gora" and was a longtime President of its Gary Chapter. A member of Serbian National Defense, The Loyal Serbian Democratic Club, the Serbian Pioneer Club and a supporting member of SSS "Karageorge" Choir. Major was a retired supervisor of the Lake County Highway Department, and was also active in the Greenbriar Apartment Complex where he resided for the past 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ljubica, son, Marko, son-in-law, Milos Sormaz and his dear granddaughter, Helen Sormaz. Major is survived by three children, Jovan (Mara) Ivetic and Sava (Dusan) Trkulja, both of Yugoslavia and Milica Sormaz of Schererville. Daughter-in-law, Koviljka Ivetich of Schererville; 12 grandchilren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also, many nieces, nephews, Kumovi, other relatives and numerous life-long friends.
