Refugio Diaz age 76, passed away December 31, 2017. He was born in Durango Mexico. Refugio was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Merrillville. He was a longtime employee of Southlake Glass in the Merrillville area and retired from La-Z-Boy in Hammond as an avid upholsterer. Refugio was a huge boxing enthusiast. He was passionate about his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Refugio was known to his grandchildren as 'Papa.'
Refugio was preceded by his parents: Anisita and Inocente Diaz; brother, Enrique Diaz, and sisters: Maria Winsch and Enriqueta Diaz. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela (nee Luna); children: Rebecca (Eryck) Pearson, Carl (Dawn) Diaz, Melisa Diaz; grandchildren: Joshua (Stephanie) Diaz, Megan (Dan) Diaz-Hanson, Alixandrya Pearson, Isabella Diaz, Carl 'CJ' Diaz, Chloe Diaz; great-grandfather to Edward 'Trey' Hanson, Brody Hanson, Reagan Diaz, Dillon Diaz; four sisters; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 200 E. 78th Ave, Merrillville, IN. Friends are invited to visit with Refugio's family at BURNS FUNERAL HOME 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church.
