Liam Wuenn was a captivating little boy who packed a lot into his short life, said his mother, Sara Wuenn.
“He smiled at everybody. He looked people square in the eye,” she said. “Every chance he got he was smiling.”
Liam T. Wuenn, 14 months, of Valparaiso, died Jan. 4. He is survived by his parents, Todd and Sara Wuenn, and his sister, Emily.
Liam was diagnosed with cancer shortly before he turned 8 months old, his mother said.
He loved playing with Mardi Gras beads, and loved playing with his sister.
“She would dump her toys out and he would sit in the middle of them,” Sara Wuenn said. “He would play with her for hours.”
He loved trains, and loved riding around his neighborhood in a golf cart. He loved taking baths, and loved dragons and knights.
He spent much time at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he loved to antagonize his nurses and steal brooms and cleaning supplies.
“There wasn’t a down moment, unless he was sleeping,” she said. “We were always up and down the hallways.”
Sara Wuenn said her son’s life had an impact on many people, even many who didn’t know him personally.
She said she’s inspired by the generosity of people, and is trying to always look for the positive in life.
“No matter how life is, there is always a better day ahead,” she said. “Liam had a huge life in a short time, which is amazing to me.”
