Norma Husband loved helping others, and made it her life’s first priority, said her daughter, Sandra Knoernschild.
“She raised her family to help people,” she said. “She had a great endurance. She could go, go, go. She was like an Energizer bunny.”
Norma Husband, 90, of Valparaiso and formerly of Dugger, Ind., died Sept. 18.
Husband was a member of First Baptist Church of Valparaiso, the Lady Lioness Club, Cecil Tucker Circle and the Lady Republican Club. She was a graduate of Dugger High School.
For 30 years, she was the assistant and administrator for the Porter County Home, retiring in 1988.
She was preceded in death by Donald Husband, her husband since 1939, who died in 1998.
Husband loved her job with the Porter County Home, and incorporated the home and its residents into her life.
“She enjoyed helping people,” she said. “She was on call 24-7. She went 10 years without a vacation.”
Being a member of First Baptist Church of Valparaiso was important to her, and she taught Sunday School for many years, she said.
She loved gardening, her daughter said, and loved taking the residents of the Porter County Home into the garden to pick flowers and berries.
“She loved her garden, and could grow just about anything,” Knoernschild said. “She had so much compassion for the residents. That was her life.”
