Christine Bowman was a dedicated nurse who always went out of her way to help others. She would even pull over while driving and help strangers in need, her husband said.
“She enjoyed helping people,” said Paul Bowman. “It seems like every shift, she would come home with two or three cards from patients and their families who thought she had gone the extra mile for them.”
Christine Arredondo Bowman, 50, of Merrillville, died May 19. She was a 1980 Merrillville High School graduate. She worked 20 years as a registered nurse, working for Southlake Care Center, Methodist Hospitals, St. Margaret Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital.
The couple were married for 18 years, but had been together for 30. They grew up five blocks from each other, but didn’t get to know each other until after high school, he said.
Christine Bowman loved the couple’s two daughters, Hannah and McKenzie, and wanted them to have a Catholic education.
“She made sure they kept up on their prayers and their homework,” her husband said.
She valued education, her Catholic faith and helping people, and passed those values on to her children.
She loved music, and had been to numerous concerts.
“She loved old rock and roll, and had a lot of friends who played in bands and enjoyed going to see them,” he said.
She also loved gardening and doing work in the yard.
“She loved being outdoors and being out in the sun,” Paul Bowman said.
