Virginia “Kiki” Schroeder was a kind and loving woman who made her family the top priority in her life, said her husband, David Schroeder.

Virginia “Kiki” Schroeder, 75, of Boone Grove and formerly of Merrillville, died Sept. 20.

She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed doing everything she could to help her husband and her two sons.

“She really valued her family and enjoyed being a homemaker,” her husband said. “She took care of everything around the house and gave us a good life. She did everything a mother could do.”

She enjoyed traveling and had visited places including Florida, Arizona and Las Vegas.

She was an excellent athlete dating to her high school days. She enjoyed playing tennis, snowmobiling in northern Wisconsin and golfing in Florida. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs play, her husband said.

“She was an outstanding athlete and she especially enjoyed playing tennis,” he said. “She was extremely good at it.”

David Schroeder said he first met his wife in the early 1950s while they were both in high school. A mutual friend introduced them at a Merrillville restaurant where she worked as a car hop.

“She was a great mother, a great wife,” her husband said. “She had a great personality and was very smart. We loved her very much.”
