Brooke Mieczenkowski loved animals and would do anything she could to help them, said her mother, Lori Mieczenkowski.

She loved felines, especially her cat, Felix. She volunteered at an animal shelter and fostered cats.

“She was a real animal lover,” her mother said. “She would give cats their medicine when she had to. She was thinking of going to school to become a vet technician.”

Brooke Mieczenkowski, 23, of Valparaiso and formerly of Chesterton, died March 5.

She is survived by her mother and her father, John Mieczenkowski Jr.

She loved chocolate, her mother said.

“She really loved her candy and sweets,” she said.

Lori Mieczenkowski said she and her daughter were close, and she was encouraging her daughter to be more independent.

“We were close, and I helped her in every way I could,” she said.

She said her daughter was meticulous when it came to details. She loved movies and she loved cutting and coloring her friends’ hair.

“She and her friends would all get together and dance and listen to music,” Lori Mieczenkowski said. “They all loved to joke around and laugh and dance.”

She was especially close with her family and friends. She loved going to a campground near Shipshewana.

“She loved to fish, swim and have bonfires,” she said. “She had a close group of friends there.”
