PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Portage woman died Sunday night after a motorcycle accident just south of Lakes of the Four Seasons at the Lake/Porter county border.

Laura Walker, 42, of the 6800 block of Portage Avenue, died at the scene of the accident at Porter County Road 350 South and County Line Road, according to Porter County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Chris Eckert.

Eckert said the motorcycle was being driven by Eugene Raber of rural Porter County. Accident reconstructions report that Raber was westbound on CR 350 South at a high speed when he and Walker, who was his passenger, hit a guardrail about 7:50 p.m.. Both were thrown from the motorcycle.

Alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident, Eckert said.

Raber was taken to St. Anthony hospital in Crown Point, then was transfered to Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Ill. He was listed Monday evening in critical condition.

The cause of Walker's death was ruled blunt force trauma from a motorcycle accident.

Eckert said police and prosecutors will continue to investigate the crash to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.
