Steinkraus assigned to station

Matthew M. Steinkraus arrived for assignment at a U.S. military base in Kuwait.

Steinkraus is a field service representative for a surveillance and IED (improvised explosive device) detection agency serving in Kuwait in support of U.S. military services.

He is the son of Larry and Susan Steinkraus, of St. John.

He is a 1996 graduate of Lake Central High School and a 2000 graduate of Indiana University.

Martin completes basic training

Army Pvt. Jayson E. Martin has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

Martin is a 2002 graduate of Lowell Senior High School.

Adams attends training center

Army National Guard Lt. Col. Brian F. Adams has arrived at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind., as a member of the 38th Infantry Division's Task Force Cyclone to complete mobilization training for a future deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 38th Infantry Division is an Army National Guard division based in Indianapolis.

Task Force Cyclone's mission is to provide assistance to the Afghan government in security, construction, economic, and agricultural support in assigned areas of operations. They also will facilitate the reception, training, housing and sustainment of U.S. troops entering the country.

While at the training center, soldiers work on individual training, weapons qualifications, driver's training, medical training, Humvee rollover training and performed other training tasks in preparation for the future deployment.

Adams, a deputy mayor, has served in the military for 23 years.

He is the son of Rose Adams, of Hammond.

The lieutenant colonel graduated in 1981 from Morton High School in Hammond and earned a master's degree in 1990 from Webster University in St. Louis.

Baunacs returns from deployment

Army Reserve Capt. Steve D. Baunach returned to the United States after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allies. Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Baunach, a civil affairs officer, is normally assigned to the 426th Civil Affairs Battalion in Upland, Calif. He has 20 years of military service.

His wife, Carol, is the daughter of Gonzalo Vasquez, and Naomi Vasquez, both of Hammond.

The captain graduated in 1975 from Central Catholic High School, Lafayette, and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

Rodgers graduates from training

National Guard Pvt. Andre V. Rodgers has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.

During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Rodgers is the son of Antoine and Ann Rodgers, of Griffith.

He is a 2006 graduate of Griffith High School.

Dunne promoted to 1st Lt.

Marine Corps 1st Lt. Jonathan P. Dunne, a 1989 graduate of Homewood Flossmoor High School, Flossmoor, Ill., recently was promoted to his current rank and reported for duty with Headquarters, Marine Forces Europe, in Boeblingen, Germany.

Hohneck completes training

Army Pvt. Anthony C. Hohneck has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).

During basic training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, military customs and courtesies, map reading, tactics, basic rifle marksmanship, physical fitness, field training and first aid skills. The recruit developed combat skills and handled various weapons available to the infantry soldier.

During AIT, the soldier received instruction to serve as an infantryman/mortarman using light and heavy anti-armor weapons, indirect-fire support and mechanized operations while assigned to a rifle or mortar squad. The training included weapons qualification, tactics, patrolling, navigation, field communications and combat operations; engagement in infantry combat exercises, battle drills, land mine locating, neutralizing and extracting, and survival operations during a nuclear, biological or chemical attack.

Hohneck is the son of Scott Hohneck, of Valparaiso.

Feitshans graduates from training
