VALPARAISO | The city's Ethics Commission is about to embark on another hunt for violations.

At its meeting Wednesday, the commission agreed it is time to do another survey of employees to find out whether they have witnessed any violations. The survey is a follow-up to one conducted in 2008 that had 144 responses out of 318 employees and resulted in action concerning the use of public vehicles.

A decision will be made at the next meeting on questions to be asked and whether to have results analyzed by an outside source, such as Valparaiso University's Community Research and Service Center, which has done several surveys for the city. The commission plans to compare the survey questions with those asked in a Lake County survey based on the Valparaiso questionnaire.

City employees have received ethics training since the first survey, and the commission hopes to compare the results of the second survey with the first to see what impact the training has had. City Administrator Bill Oeding said he will contact Larry Baas, director of the VU Community Research and Service Center, to review the survey questions and see whether he was interested in doing the survey analysis as part of students' studies.

The commission accepted the resignation of Pat Puffer, who was appointed in 2005 to represent the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce. In her letter, Puffer cited other commitments making it too difficult for her to attend bimonthly meetings. Oeding said chamber President Rex Richards expected to appoint a replacement soon.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. June 23 at City Hall.
