THURSDAY
Check deception. First State Bank of Porter reported someone cashed a fraudulent $1,963 check at the Chesterton branch at 429 N. Calumet Road. Police said the check was of high quality. Police said two other similar checks were cashed at the bank's Pine Township branch, one of which was cashed by the same suspect.
MONDAY
Fraud. Chesterton resident Daniel O'Brien told police he received a letter in the mail from Credit Management stating it purchased his $401.75 debt from Charter Communications and wanted to settle for a portion of the debt. He was told a telephone account was opened in his name in Texas prior to October 2007, and there is an unpaid debt. He told police the company wants his Social Security number and a copy of his driver's license to help him in the investigation. Police told him to provide the company with the police report number, but not to give his personal information.
Vandalism. Chesterton resident Jason Layman reported someone slashed all four tires on his truck while it was parked near Popolano's Restaurant on South Calumet Road. The damage is $600.
PORTAGE
MONDAY
Burglary. Police said someone burglarized Nick Gundrum's apartment in the 6000 block of Lute Road. Police said someone forced entry though a door and stole a duffle bag containing a gas mask, knee and elbow pads and ammunition pads.

SUNDAY
Burglary. Fish Lake Street resident Keith Albee told police someone burglarized his home. The damage is $500. Nothing was immediately determined to be missing.
