Holly Furdo wants kids to 'Crocodile Rock' with her Aug. 12 to 14 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Schererville.
The vacation bible school program will meet in the evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.and include dinner, every night. Daily themes will be based on specific Bible verses and participants will rotate through age appropriate stations. "So they're more apt to make friends and it won't necessarily be someone they go to school with. It will be somebody new in the community."
Interesting craft projects will include making a lantern to coincide with the song "This Little Light of Mine" and the verse about allowing Jesus' light to shine within you. "It will all go together so they're unknowingly learning a Bible verse and about God in a fun way," she said.
A longtime church member, Furdo took on the job of director of VBS to show kids its fun to come to church and learn about God.
"I felt it was time," she said. "I've put my kids in other VBS programs and seen how much they love it. I don't see a lot in our Schererville, St. John area and we have such a fantastic location.
"It's a good way to get people who don't go to church of who haven't been to church in a while or who are looking for a church and need a reason. If the children go for a fun time, maybe it will rub off on their parents. If nothing else, we are letting people know about God."
The program will include a mission for Humane Society of the Calumet Area and have a deejay on the last night. Registration is ongoing at the church, 140 West U.S. 30 or call (219) 865-2686.
Furdo and her husband, Eric, live in Schererville and have three children: eight year old twins Taylor and Ashley and five year old Avery. Their fourth child is due February 4.
